PMPThe Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification is the project management credential of choice world-wide. The purpose and goal of this program is to develop, maintain, evaluate, promote and administer a rigorous, examination-based, professional certification program of the highest calibre.
 

Obtaining your PMP certification:


Eligibility:
Before you can apply for the PMP exam, you must meet specific eligibility criteria and agree to adhere to the PMI Code of Professional Conduct.

Category 1 – You hold a baccalaureate degree or equivalent (the subject does not matter)

Experience 'directing and leading' project teams

4,500 Hrs

Number of unique months of non-overlapping project management experience

36 Months

Allowable timeframe for accumulating experience, prior to date of application

3 to 8 years

Formal, project management specific training contact hours (prior to application)

35 Hrs

Category 2 – You hold a high school diploma or equivalent

Experience 'directing and leading' project teams

7,500 Hrs

Number of unique months of non-overlapping project management experience

60 Months

Allowable timeframe for accumulating experience, prior to date of application

5 to 8 years

Formal, project management specific training contact hours (prior to application)

35 Hrs

The supporting documentation/information required by a candidate before applying for the examination is: -

  1. Educational background (degree or diploma or equivalent for Category 1)
     
  2. Experience verification form(s) meeting the requirements above + referees to verify the time claimed for each project listed. Your experience verification forms must identify hours against some of the specified tasks in each of the five ‘domains’ within a projects life cycle (but there are no minimum requirements):
    1. Initiating processes.
    2. Planning processes.
    3. Executing processes.
    4. Controlling processes.
    5. Closing processes.
       
  3. Proof of having successfully completed the required number of contact hours of project management education – PMI Melbourne’s courses are pre-approved by PMI for the 35 Hrs.

 

Potential candidates must also agree to abide by the PMI Code of Ethics.


Application:
Prior to sitting the exam, you must lodge your application via the PMI USA web site. (PMI Melbourne Chapter does NOT administer the examination).

The first step in the application process requires completing the on-line application forms to demonstrate your eligibility, PMI staff then review your application for completeness.

Once your on-line application has been assessed and determined to be complete, PMI will send you electronic notification to submit payment of the credential fee. This requires you to go back into the on-line certification system to: select your examination delivery method, request any special facilities, and submit payment.

After making your payment, your application will either be randomly selected for PMI's Audit process or you will receive your examination scheduling instructions.

After receiving your email advising your candidate details, scheduling your examination is straightforward. All eligible candidates can quickly and easily schedule, cancel and reschedule their certification examinations on-line.


Examination:
You must pass a multiple-choice examination designed to objectively assess and measure your project management knowledge. The examination is computer-based and comprises 200 multiple-choice questions. The allotted time to complete the examination is 4 hours and the required pass level is 61%.

The PMP Examination fees are charged in US Dollars; all major credit cards are accepted.

  1. PMI Member Rate US$ 405.00
  2. Non Member Rate US$ 555.00

Note: The cost of joining PMI is US$189.00 made up of:

  1. US$119.00 annual fee
  2. US$10.00 joining fee
  3. US$60.00 PMI Melbourne Chapter fee

Substantial discounts are offered to members on both the examination fees and the PMI Melbourne Chapter course fees. All PMI examinations are administered exclusively by Prometric, a leading worldwide provider of testing and assessment services.  Test facilities are currently available in Melbourne and Sydney.  You can sit your exam at any time throughout the year at either facility and have a 12 moth window from the date your application is accepted.

Paper based exams are offered from time to time in other centres (contact the local PMI Chapter for details)

 

Continuing Certification: Once you have passed your PMP examination, you maintain your certification status by 'earning' 60 PDU (Professional Development Unit) points in a three year cycle. These PDU points can be earned in a number of ways including attendance at PMI events, seminars and specified training.  For additional information visit our Continuing Certification Page

 

PMP Training Courses in Melbourne:

The PMI Melbourne Chapter offers a wide range of courses to help prepare candidates to sit the PMP examination. These courses are delivered by PMI approved Registered Education Providers (REPs) and are pre-approved by PMI for the 35 Hrs of training.  Whilst these courses are optional and not a requirement for sitting your PMP examination (provided you can demonstrate 35 Hrs of approved project management training), you will need to plan a focused study plan to be successful in the examination.
