TOPIC:   Well being in the Work Place

At the PMI Australia Conference in September 2014, Hon Jeff Kennett, then Chair of beyondblue, charged the audience to look after their own mental health and the mental health of the people they lead.  Continuing from that, we have had an increased focus on mental health and wellbeing, particularly in the workplace.

Project Managers are often under a lot of pressure to deliver business results for senior executives.  There are budgets to manage, people to lead and deadlines to achieve in a constantly changing landscape.  Project Managers can get extremely stressed and experience burn out.  When projects are in trouble, Project Managers often become the focal point of blame and frustration for the executives who just want the business problem solved.   Even if the project has been well resourced and supported, there are often last minute changes which can unseat a plan and unsettle the workforce.

What tools, techniques, advice and strategies can we give our PM community to promote their own wellbeing and that of the people they lead?”
